I have always adored Ambah‘s patterns and always take part in her yearly KALs so when the opportunity to test knit one of her patterns came up I jumped at the chance. Once chosen, I quickly contacted Cathy at Hooker’s Corner to obtain the required skeins which she immediately sent out and I miraculously received 2 days later.
It took about 3 weeks of knitting from start to finish. The lace sections went quick, they were a nice mental break from the diamond sections since it was easy to fall into a rhythm. The diamond sections also went quick, but they required a bit more attention. I couldn’t be happier with the end result. Hooker’s Corner super sock is so soft and squishy and the colorways offered the perfect amount of contrast.
Test knit notes
Which yarn did you use and approx how much yarn did you use?
Hookers Corner super sock
MC: Chalkboard 194.99g (using 3 skeins)
CC: Dream State 71.2g
Did you work from the charted or written instructions?
Chart, I started with the written and nearly gave up before switching to the chart.
Were you able to obtain gauge?
Close, 28 stitches 4” in both sections. I don’t normally worry about gauge on shawls but with the two different sections I thought about it more
which needle size did you use?
Lace sections: US5
Diamond sections: US6 (I find the US5 to create too tight of a weave)
Were the instructions clear, easy to follow?
The chart was but the written parts were not as easy to follow. For example, having the chart instructions for how many repeats to do at the top with the written instructions was confusing. It would be helpful to have the repeats at the end of the written instructions, I usually see them there with other projects.
Did the project come out to the size specified?
yes
Were there any errors in the pattern?
None other than those already pointed out
Were there any parts, instructions, charts, abbreviations in the pattern that were unclear? No
How difficult would you rate this project to knit, and why?
Intermediate Beginner mostly for the color work. All aspects alone are not difficult but together it adds up. Once the person got going though it would be a piece of cake.
